DESCRIPTION:HR Essentials is a an entry level session for our HR Professional Programme of learning coming soon!\nPlease note when booking HR Essentials it is not mandatory to book to attend HR Professional 1 & 2\nA challenge for Councillors is that they are also employers, and for a number of people coming into this role this is a new responsibility to them. Being an employer comes with a whole host of things that you need to know and do – many of which are legal requirements. This short programme has been designed to help Councillors to understand the rights of employees, the duties of employers and the laws that impact these.\nThis programme will be interactive with a mix of teaching, tutor-led discussion and group activity.\nThe learning outcomes are:\n\nto understand the rights that employees legally have\nto understand the obligations of employers\nto understand the legal and HR implications\nto understand the role of Acas\nto gain an appreciation of their role in ensuring employees are being treated correctly\n\n \nWe will examine the Employment Rights Act 1996 as a key part of the programme as this drives the foundations of what employers must legally do to support their employees.\nWe will also touch on:\n\nthe National Minimum Wage Act 1998\nthe Employment Relations Act 1999\nthe Maternity and Parental Leave etc. Regulations 1999\nthe Part-Time Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000\nAgency Workers Regulations 2010\nThe Acas Codes of Practice\n\n \nThis programme is not aimed at making anyone a legal expert, just to raise awareness of what legislation exists and how to make sure you are abiding by it. As well as keeping you legal it will also help you to have more motivated, happier and productive employees.\nRunning time: 2 hours approximately depending on Q&A\nWho should attend: Suitable for both Councillors and Officers\nRemote access: Zoom joining instructions will be issued closer to the time\nCourse tutors:  Human Capital Department\nJim Blythe & Peter Lawrence\nJim is a highly accomplished Learning and Development and HR professional having worked for prestigious corporates & big international brands, including AVIVA, Virgin, Bloomberg & Fujitsu. He has now seen the light and supports SME Businesses across the region with HR and L+D challenges.
