DESCRIPTION:CilCA 2026 – BMKALC Building your CiLCA Portfolio\nThe Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) is the professional standard in the local council sector.\nWho can take CiLCA? \nClerks, Assistant Clerks and officers working with local councils. When a council’s chief officer attains CiLCA, the council may be eligible to apply for the Local Council Award Scheme (Quality and Quality Gold) and also able to use the General Power of Competence (GPC).\nYou will need a good working knowledge and understanding of the clerk’s role and work involved. We recommend that you are in post for a minimum of 12 months before applying for the CiLCA qualification.\nIf you feel you have good reason to train for CiLCA before being in post for 1 year please contact us in advance to discuss this matter.\nWhat is involved\nAchieving the CiLCA qualification is in two parts, these parts may overlap.  BMKALC provides the education and support to complete a substantial portfolio of evidence and the SLCC who are the certifying body, will assess and approve the portfolio.\nBMKALC hosts 6 sessions during which we will take you through the 5 units and help you gain the knowledge and the tools you need to build your CiLCA portfolio.\n\nCore roles in Local Council Administration\nLaw and Procedure for Local Councils\nFinance for Local Councils\nManagement for Local Councils\nCommunity Engagement\n\nWhen and where:\nThis course costs £425 and all sessions will take place in person at Judges Lodgings, Aylesbury from 10am to 3pm. \nLunch and refreshments will be provided, please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements on booking.  \nWe can only accept a maximum of 14 candidates so early booking is recommended.\n\n28th April CiLCA Session 1 – 10am to 3pm\n29th of May  CiLCA Session 2 – 10am to 3pm – note change of date from previously advertised \n30th June CiLCA Session 3 – 10am to 3pm\n28th July CiLCA  Session 4 – 10am to 3pm\n29th September CiLCA Session 5 – 10am to 3pm\n27th October – Wrap up session – 10am to 3pm\n\nPlease do get in touch if you would like more information or want to discuss any aspects of the CiLCA qualification.\nBMKALC Cost: £425 for members (non-vatable) \nThe SLCC cost for CiLCA qualification is currently £495 (non-vatable) and is payable on registration to the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC).  This element of the fee is set by the SLCC and is outside of our control.  There is a bi-monthly intake and you will have 12 months from the intake date to complete your portfolio. We recommend that you do not register until after your first BMKALC session.
