This practical, step-by-step course is designed to demystify the year-end process and provide clerks, RFOs, councillors, and council staff with the knowledge and confidence needed to successfully complete the AGAR\nDelivered by Lewis Anderson PSLCC, an experienced local government clerk & RFO, internal auditor and Lead Member on the Internal Audit Forum, this session will guide delegates through each stage of the AGAR process, from preparing year-end accounts and supporting documentation through to completing the Annual Governance Statement and Accounting Statements.\nUsing real-world examples and practical guidance, delegates will gain a clear understanding of key requirements, common pitfalls, internal controls, audit expectations, and how to ensure compliance with the Joint Panel on Accountability and Governance (JPAG) Practitioners’ Guide.\nBy the end of the course, delegates will:\n\nUnderstand the purpose and structure of the AGAR.\nBe able to prepare for year-end and gather the required evidence.\nUnderstand the Annual Governance Statement assertions and supporting controls.\nComplete Accounting Statements accurately and confidently.\nUnderstand the year end roles of the Clerk, RFO, council members, internal auditor, and external auditor.\nIdentify common errors and how to avoid them.\nEnsure compliance with statutory requirements and audit expectations.\n\nWhether you are new to AGAR or looking for a refresher ahead of year-end, this course provides the practical knowledge and confidence needed to navigate the process successfully and achieve a smooth audit outcome.\nRunning time:   2 hours approximately depending on Q&A\nRemote Access: Joining instructions will be issued closer to the time\nCancellation: A full refund will be given if 14 days or more notice prior to the date of the training course is given.
