The Parish encompasses the village of Slapton, and the hamlets of Horton and Grove. It is situated on the eastern side of the County to the south of Leighton Buzzard. The Parish Council has a complement of seven Councillors serving an electoral population of around 450.
It is an active Council seeking to improve the facilities of the Parish for the benefit of the constituents. The Council meets monthly (the exception being August when there is no meeting). There are occasional Extraordinary Meetings.
The Parish has an annual precept of circa £29,000 with variable income from other sources.
Details of the Position
The position has become available due to the retirement of the current Clerk.
The working hours are 40 hours per calendar month. The Clerk will need to be home based and have their own transport. The Clerk is required to attend Council Meetings held on the second Wednesday of the month at 8pm, normally in Slapton Village Hall but currently online via Zoom.
The post has a dual role of both Parish Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer of the Council having responsibility for the administration, finances and management of the Council. Negotiating skills with third parties including other local government bodies is essential. The candidate is expected to become conversant with Local Government legislation as it affects the Council. It is anticipated that the candidate would be willing to attend training courses and work towards the CiLCA qualification. (Certificate in Local Council Administration)
The candidate is expected to have the appropriate IT skills.
The Salary range offered is SP 18-23 £24,982 – £27741 pro rata, dependent upon qualifications and experience. By National Agreement the hourly rate is calculated by dividing the annual salary by 52 and then by 37.
