Dear Colleagues
Another fast and furious week of activity! Perhaps blown along by the winds we’ve been experiencing!
We started the week with Cllr Des Bray and me, attending the NALC Power Shift 2025 conference and it was great to see some of our councils represented there too. You’ll have seen the NALC’s Chair’s Update which described in more detail the speakers and information shared. It was interesting to consider where we are now, already unitary and how we continue to campaign for realisation of the ambitions that we shared before 2020.
There was a lot of information in the bulletin from NALC this week and I thought it worthwhile highlighting the section relating to planning there are a number of assets which are of use to parish councils, you will need your nalc.gov.uk login to access them.
- how to respond to planning applications,
- neighbourhood planning and planning explained. updates pending…
- government had removed financial support for neighbourhood planning. NALC, ALC’s and other partners to looking at how to mitigate the consequences of this decision.
I attended the MKCC Standards Committee as a public speaker on Tuesday evening on matters that they were considering relating to Town and Parish Councils. It was both interesting and educational, I think for all of us and I hope to be asked again where there are matters that affect our members.
The CiLCA 2025 group met on Wednesday for week 2 of their portfolio training. Unit 2 is possible the longest and most complex of the units and everyone left looking slightly dazed, including possibly the trainer! It is always a pleasure to meet with our CiLCA students, it gives me an excuse to do a deeper dive into rules that I take for granted and I always leave the day feeling inspired by their enthusiasm and commitment.
On Thursday BC hosted the Parish Planning Forum on line, unfortunately I was called away early, but there were around 60 people on line, so I’m pleased to see the engagement from members. The slide pack will be circulated to all Town and Parish Councils directly from BC.
We’re quite relieved that our conference season is over and we can focus our efforts again on local business again. That means in person Chairing Skills next Monday, Executive Board meeting on Tuesday, national training meeting on Thursday and a Knowledge Bites covering Star Council Awards on Friday. In between all that we look forward as always to speaking with you, until then have a great weekend.
Kind regards
Mel and Lorraine
