BMKALC
Bespoke Town & Parish Council Training from BMKALC
Whole Council Training

BMKALC offer whole council training to our member councils at your premises.  The topics can include where we sit within the tiers of government, our roles, powers and duties, legal obligations, the Code of Conduct, finance and scrutiny, agenda and minutes, transparency and publication schemes.

The course duration is 90 minutes and consequently is a broad rather than in depth course.  It is possible to deliver a single subject training session such as our Civility and Respect one.  The general session provides an excellent start opportunity for all Councillors and key officers to learn more about their roles in the community which they represent.

Our Chief Executive Mel Woof will speak with the council in advance of the bespoke training session to ensure we pick up on any key area’s for your council enabling us to  emphasise support in the right places.

Venue: By arrangement of the client council

Running Time: Approximately 90 minutes including Q&A

Time: 6.30pm – 8pm

Cost:£420

Civility & Respect

Civility and respect should be at the heart of public life, and good governance is fundamental to ensuring an effective and well-functioning democracy at all levels.

One of the key aims of the civility and respect project has been to deliver training support for councillors, clerks, and employees, developing the tools, procedures and protocols for a healthy working relationship both within and outside the council.

A critical step in creating a safe and inclusive environment for local councils is making all councillors, clerks and council staff aware of the issues, what is — and what is not — acceptable behaviour.  Knowing how to recognise and address bullying, harassment, discrimination, and inclusion is an essential step in prevention.

Training ensures that councils demonstrate that they do not tolerate these types of behaviour and provide the tools to intervene immediately, consistently, equitably, and appropriately when poor behaviour takes place.

Whole Council Visioning Day

We join Councils as Councillors or Officers with an ambition to make a difference and to improve our community in some way.  Getting from those concepts to delivering successful schemes, is difficult, given that we may not have that experience or the skills needed in place.  This day will help you capture those ambitions, think about how they can be realised within our lawful remit, what tools we already have and can use and introduce us to AI tools which which can help us turn ambitions into a manageable plan that we use to deliver our projects.

Objectives

Understand the remit of the local council and it’s relevance to the Community and the importance of each member of the team.

Capture the ambitions and aspirations of the team for the community.

Knowing how to progress ambition into a SMART plan for delivery.
