Councillor Recruitment, Induction & Retention – Effective Strategies & Practices – In-person Seminar March 8th – 10am to 1pm In-person

Councillor recruitment is an ongoing challenge, and we face the need for new members more frequently than we’d prefer. While full elections every four years are an obvious opportunity, there are also unfilled and casual vacancies that arise outside those cycles. It can be difficult to retain committed councillors and even more challenging to attract new recruits. This session is designed to provide practical tips to help reenergise the recruitment process and give new councillors the tools they need to hit the ground running.

This is a half day training and information seminar delivered by Mel Woof CEO BMKALC and Dan Purchese of Breakthrough Communications opening with councillor recruitment strategies for success, successful campaigning including public speaking and recording video clips top tips and exploring how councils can create an induction programme that has long lasting benefits and ensures councillors are set up to succeed.

  • How councils can create an induction programme appropriate to the size, shape and nature of the council
  • How to ensure a council’s internal communications culture is set up for long-term success
  • How to create a genuinely useful and value-filled Welcome Pack
  • How to carry out a Councillor Skills Audit and how that should impact the council’s training programme for 2024 and beyond
  • What a really effective buddying and mentoring programme should look and feel like
