NALC Tour – Community Assets, Local Nature Recovery Scheme

Dear Colleagues

What a week!  Without a key member of our team, and when there are only three of you, you really miss the contributions from the one enjoying a holiday week!  Added to that I was away in Newport Pagnell visiting the Town Council for two days and learning huge amounts about Community Assets and taking the conversation to developers.  It was my first case study tour with NALC and I would highly recommend it.  The opportunity to immerse yourself in a subject with a team who has made it happen is a treat, but I have come back inspired to help you be more confident in asking for, and taking assets on. Thank you to the Mayor, Cllr Paul Day and Town Clerk, Shar Roselman, for their excellent hospitality and generosity in sharing their experiences and NALC for producing these tours.

I dashed back, caught up with emails and headed to Aylesbury to be debriefed by Helen who had been holding the fort for both Lorraine and me, ready for BC’s Parish Liaison.  This was our first face to face meeting in a very long time and a separate email has been sent to BC councils covering the events of that meeting.  Thursday was Day 2 of CiLCA 2023 and the cohort attended Judges Lodgings to go through Unit 2.  We are making good progress and even todays emphasis on law and procedures, did not dampen their enthusiasm.

Following our two Summer Clerks and Connections, where we looked at the Local Council Award Scheme as well as re-connecting with neighbours and sharing local challenges and solutions, we now have some interesting observations to take back to NALC which we hope they will feed into the Scheme’s structure.

Next week Helen will be presenting Agendas & Minutes For Town, Parish & Community Councils – July 4th At 10am – In-Person at Judges Lodgings, and I remind you also of New! Mastering Customer Service For Local Councils July 12th At 10am – In-Person the following week. Keep an eye on our calendar, always plenty going on and we update all the time.  We’ve completed our current wave of Knowledge Bites, but having had such a brilliant visit to Newport Pagnell, I feel the need for another one, so watch this space for further details, and do let us know if you have suggestions for what we can put into that short and intense 30 minute lunch time slot!

I’m attaching the information relating to the Local Nature Recovery Scheme here as it applies to both MK and BC members, take a look and find out more.

We wish you a happy and relaxing weekend and look forward to speaking to you next week.

Kind regards

Mel, Helen and Lorraine
