Managing Grievances and Disciplinary Actions

1. How to respond to different staff problems:

• Poor Performance.
• Poor Attendance
• Offensive Behaviours and Harassment
• Misuse of Social Media

Attendees will be given four scenarios covering the above problems and will be asked to discuss how they would manage the problem.

2. Who manages formal and informal disciplinary issues, the full council or a delegated sub committee?

3. Understanding the benefits of effective informal counselling; to resolve most problems without the need for formal disciplinary action.

4. How to conduct an informal counselling session.

5. Conducting Formal Disciplinary Action – the ACAS Guidelines.

• Letters of Invitation, inc the right to be accompanied and providing all relevant evidence
• Conducting the Disciplinary Hearing
• Issuing an outcome and rights of Appeal

6.  Resolving Grievances – the ACAS Guidelines and the legal frame work affecting Town and Parish Councils (s28 of the Localism Act 2011 & Ledbury)

7.  Who manages formal and informal grievance issues, the full council or a delegated sub committee?

8.  Investigating an Employee’s Grievance informally.

9.  Determining whether or not the Council can conduct further action in relation to the Employee’s complaint or if it needs to be referred to the District Monitoring Officer.

10. Conducting a Formal Grievance Hearing – the ACAS Guidelines.
