With only my yew trees and accusatory green from the ivy scrambling up the skeletons of others (that’s a job for the weekend!), I am reminded that we are well established into November and that consequently our AGM is imminent! The link to register is at the top of the page. In case you are unaware this is the chance for the membership to hear directly about the work we do and to participate in our key decisions for the future. Our President Countess Howe, Lord Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire will be attending and we have a presentation by Becky Walsh who is an inspirational and entertaining speaker to motivate us all! You can attend in person or remotely, instructions on how to vote remotely and the agenda are included as attachments. Please book today!
This week Helen attended the NALC Empowering Communities event by remote link, not all the information was fresh but there were a couple of very interesting presentations from Town Councils and I am hoping to entice the Mayor of Leighton Linslade TC into a presentation to our large councils. For those unfamiliar with Leighton Buzzard, they are one of the largest precepting councils in the country and have been under severe growth pressures for many years. It is a mixed demographic with a very active town centre. Being only three miles away, it’s also my closest home town. In the last 25 years of my life I have seen this town explode in all directions and at least five different traffic solutions for the town centre!
We hosted two different training session one on management conflict within the council and the 1st of a series of 3 courses on Allotments. I attended a presentation on an exciting new project by MKCC planning looking at the management and reporting of S106 contributions. Next week with Transparency and Publication of your Financial Information with Kevin Rose and the 2nd in the Allotment series. Our Executive Board meet briefly to review my budget for next year and on Wednesday it will be all hands on deck for our AGM.
I’ve attached a copy of the Local Government Bulletin for this week which includes information on flood planning, planning thresholds, cold strategies amongst others.
A reminder to our member clerks and officers that the Clerks Coffee and Connections drop in session will be a festively themed on the 13th or 15th of December and we do hope to see many of you there. There are two venues one in Woughton and one in Aylesbury feel free to attend the one most convenient for you.
We wish you a great weekend and look forward to speaking to you next week!
