Youth Councillors Awards, Community Energy Projects, Committee on Standards in Public Life (COSIPL)consultation on accountability in public bodies

Dear Colleagues

Happy Bank Holiday! (…and it may even be dry, probably jinxed it now, certainly doesn’t look very dray at the moment!)

This week, Youth Councillors Awards, Cllr Paul Harvey and I were delighted to attend MKCC to present Certificates to the Youth Council representatives who worked with us on our Conference last year.

Community Energy Projects

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) recently launched a consultation into barriers to community energy projects. The consultation link is here: (https://www.gov.uk/government/calls-for-evidence/barriers-to-community-energy-projects ).

Speaking of Energy, you may recall our member benefit with Clear Utility Solutions.  I now have a summary of our members engagement and it is impressive!

BMKALC Results to date, Public Money Saved £515,124.00, CO2e Carbon Prevented (KG’s) 154125.5623 and 42 member Councils helped.   You can access their services through our website and through theirs.

The Committee on Standards in Public Life (COSIPL) have recently issued a consultation on accountability in public bodies and NALC will be responding.  The consultation document can be read here ( 2024-03-21 Accountability within public bodies – open consultation final (publishing.service.gov.uk) ) and the terms of reference for the consultation can be read here (2024-03-21 Accountability within public bodies – terms of reference final (publishing.service.gov.uk) ).  In order to inform its response NALC would be grateful if you could complete this linked sector snapshot survey here (https://forms.office.com/e/4fAucpk2Rd ) The survey determines at 23:45 on 31 May 2024.   Don’t forget the Buckinghamshire Council Street Trading Consultation, Your response can be by letter, by return of the consultation form or by attending one of the workshops.   Thank you to everyone who has submitted their subs payments already.  Having reached the magic 75% paid, I was able to release the first instalment due to NALC a month earlier than expected.  Well done, you!   Next week refreshed and energised we look forward to our three-day training event on all matters, procurement.  This will be intensive for everyone and we are very much looking forward to emerging with a much firmer grip on this tricky subject. Tickets sold out very quickly.    Lorraine and I wish you a fabulous Bank Holiday Weekend and look forward to speaking with you soon

Kind Regards,

Mel & Loraine
